Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2, 2026
LinkPreview.io ("we", "us", "the service") is a free tool that lets you preview how a URL appears when shared on social platforms such as Twitter/X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, and Google Search. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the service you agree to the practices described below. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the site.
Information we collect
We try to collect as little data as possible. The categories of information involved when you use LinkPreview.io are:
- URLs you submit. When you paste a URL into the tool, our server fetches that page and parses its publicly visible meta tags (title, description, Open Graph, Twitter Card, and similar). The fetched URL and its meta data may be cached for up to one hour to make repeat lookups faster. We do not link submitted URLs to your identity.
- Standard request data. Like every web service, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes your IP address, user agent, and request metadata in order to serve the page, apply rate limits, and protect against abuse. These logs are retained only for the period required for security and reliability.
- Local browser storage. The tool may save settings or recently checked URLs in your browser's local storage so that you can return to them. This data stays on your device and is never transmitted to us. You can clear it at any time from your browser settings.
- Analytics. We may use privacy-respecting analytics to count page views and understand which features are used. Where used, analytics are aggregated and do not identify individual visitors.
Cookies and third-party advertising
LinkPreview.io may display advertisements served by Google AdSense, a third-party advertising service operated by Google. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites on the internet.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to this and other sites.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info.
In addition to advertising cookies, your browser may store small amounts of functional information (such as theme preference) on this site. We do not use cookies to track you across other sites. You can disable cookies in your browser at any time, although doing so may affect site functionality.
How we use information
We use the limited information described above only to:
- Operate and maintain the service, including fetching meta tags from the URL you submit.
- Apply rate limits and protect the service from abuse, scraping, and denial-of-service activity.
- Improve the tool by understanding which features are used and where errors occur.
- Serve relevant advertising through Google AdSense, as described above.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share information with third parties except as required to operate the service (for example, our hosting provider) or to comply with applicable law.
Your rights under GDPR (EU/UK/Switzerland)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and equivalent local laws give you specific rights regarding your personal data. These include:
- The right to access the personal data we hold about you.
- The right to request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- The right to request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
- The right to restrict or object to processing of your data.
- The right to data portability for data you provided to us.
- The right to withdraw consent for any processing based on consent.
- The right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
Our legal basis for processing the limited request data described above is our legitimate interest in operating a reliable, secure service. Where advertising or analytics rely on cookies, the basis is your consent, which you may withdraw at any time using the controls described in the Cookies section above.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email address below. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
Children's privacy
LinkPreview.io is a developer tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be highlighted on the home page or in the footer. Continued use of the service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
